Cisco VPN on Ubuntu 6.06 (Edgy Eft)

I had an extreme amount of difficulty getting the Cisco VPN client working on Ubuntu 6.06. I tried both versions 4.6 and 4.8 without success using the .pcf file provided by my company and a couple of other .pcf files that I use. I continued to get this error:

Initializing the VPN connection.
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client
Reason: The Connection Manager was unable to read the connection entry, or the connection entry has missing or incorrect information.

I finally ran across a suggestion to copy the sample.pcf file and replace the values in the file with the values specific to my company. There were a number of entries in the company provided pcf file that weren’t in the sample.pcf. I copied the sample.pcf file and changed the necessary settings. That did it.

While it didn’t fix my problem, I did find this tutorial very helpful.
